After one of the hottest summers ever recorded, it’s time for the cooler air to descend upon us (hopefully!). For our Fall 2024 Menu we turn our focus on whiskey. We will be using both Bourbon and Rye in our drinks, and while often interchangeable, we recommend sticking to the type called out if possible. We will leave that other “whisky” known as Scotch to another season, as it seems to engender strong emotions on both sides of the bottle!
Much care was taken with this menu; perhaps more care than any menu we’ve done before in our 1.5 years of the Runaway Anchor. Several whiskey cocktails were considered that we just couldn’t get where we wanted them. But we have 7 cocktails that we are confident you will enjoy as the leaves start to fall.
Several options are very straight forward, and smooth sippers. If you are still figuring out your feelings about bitters and vermouths, look to the Red Raider, Ross Collins, or the Figetaboutit (jam in a cocktail??). Each of these leans on the sweet side of the spectrum. Other options do include more bitter bottles, but they are all about balance. Those include the Midnight Stinger (Fernet Branca), Home on the Range (Sweet Vermouth), Boo Radley (Cynar) and the Left Hand (Campari). Each is a bit of an adventure, but one worth taking if we have anything to say about it!
For our “Runaway Godfather Cocktail” we feature, as always, an Anders Erickson Original. This time it’s a beer cocktail called the Lumberjack in Love. When tasting, it has been said that this drink, which combines cherry and allspice with an oktoberfest beer, is “fall in a glass”. It is dangerous though, packing a decent amount of bourbon, hiding amongst all the other flavors, so maybe stick to two tops!
We wrap up with two mocktails. The first is a Runaway Original we call the Genovia (because we were watching “The Princess Diaries” when we created it). It’s a wonder when four juices can combine to make something totally new, and the Genovia is a great example. Finally we have an apple cider mocktail that is another odd duck. So many flavors, and this one is served to taste. If needed, ramp up the maple or ramp down the ginger. It’s fun to make a drink exactly the way someone will love it; be it a cocktail or mocktail!
We hope you enjoy this new seasonal menu!! We will be back with next season (with a couple mini menus along the way).
The recipes have already begun posting to the main feed, and will continue WEEKLY throughout the season.
Cheers!
