Chambord Bramble

It is rare that we highlight “build in glass” cocktails. Part of the fun of home bartending is getting to use the tools! Mixing Glass, Boston Shaker, Lewis Bag and Mallet!! They are all fun, and make you feel like a pro. But sometimes it’s nice to just throw something together in the glass, which brings us to the Chambord Bramble.

Chambord is a raspberry liqueur that comes in a very distinct bottle. A quick search for most popular drinks made with it led us directly to the Bramble. This is a Gin cocktail, and generally calls for London Dry. But here at the Runaway Anchor, we tend to lean on the smoother gins of Plymouth and Old Tom, and that’s no different here. The Gin Bramble also uses a different liqueur, Creme de Muir which is not as sweet as Chambord. Use whatever gin you like best for this one though, no judgement!

As the days get colder, take one more sip of summer in a glass, and bonus, you won’t have much to clean up afterwards!

Cheers!

1oz Fresh Lemon Juice

1oz Gin (Old Tom, Plymouth)

1oz Chambord Raspberry Liqueur

Fill a lowball glass with ice cubes

Add each ingredient in the order listed above to the glass

Top with extra ice if needed

Give it a swirl and start sippin’

Blueberry Gin and Tonic

In the search for a blue or purple drink, I came upon this twist on the gin and tonic. Making syrups is not nearly as hard as you might think (spoiler: it’s boiling water, sugar and blueberries). The simple glass build was also interesting, saving lots of mess.

You can also add this to lemonade to make a tasty mocktail (that will probably appear in the mocktail library one of these days).

Cheers!

1oz Blueberry Syrup (recipe below)

3oz Plymouth Gin

Top with Tonic Water

Garnish with Lime and Blueberries

For Syrup:

0.5 cup sugar

0.5 cup water

1 cup fresh blueberries

Blueberry Syrup Build

Put everything in a pan and bring to simmer on the stove

Cook until the sugar is dissolved and the blueberries are mushy (stirring often)

Remove from heat and allow to cool

Use a strainer to filter into a bottle

Build cocktail in the glass!

Fill high ball glass with ice

Add syrup and gin

Top with Tonic Water

Squeeze a little lime and garnish with Lime wedge and blueberries

The Final Say

If you enjoy a “Last Word” but can’t find Green Chartreuse, we highly recommend this cocktail as an alternative. We modified the original recipe a fair amount, so you might need to as well. The Violete can quickly overpower the drink, so experiment and start lighter. And stick with a mild gin like Plymouth or Old Tom.

Cheers!

1oz Plymouth Gin

1oz Maraschino Liqueur

1oz Fresh Lime Juice

0.75oz Creme de Violete

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker

Add ice and shake for 10 seconds

Double strain into a chilled Nick and Nora glass

Poet’s Dream

Another tasty cocktail from the Winter Menu (and the Cocktail Codex, from Death and Company). If you enjoy a martini, you’ll probably enjoy this too. If you are not yet drinking your martinis by the book (gin, vermouth, maybe bitters), this is a nice entry to the cocktail. It pulls back on the vermouth, and adds in the complex herbal liqueur of Benedictine (one of our favs!). Sticking with orange bitters and you’ve got a nice sipper. Cheers!

2 oz Gin

0.75 oz Dolin Dry Vermouth

0.25 oz Benedictine

2 dashes Orange Bitters

Garnish: Lemon Twist

Stir all ingredients over ice (good 30 seconds)

Strain into a chilled Nick and Nora glass

Express lemon oil and set on the edge of the glass

Blueberry Bantha – Member Created Cocktail

This is our first member created cocktail, not created by one of the founders. We are thrilled to feature Leif’s tasty cocktail as the first of our “member created” series.

A well known fan of all things Star Wars, Leif found a creative way to combine blueberries with an often overlook liqueur, Limon Rum Chata! Leif’s original recipe is served on the rocks with minimal straining. We also discovered that if you like a cocktail served “up” (no ice) you can modify this drink. No change in the recipe, just double strain into a chilled glass.

Thank you Leif for raising this glass for all of us to enjoy!! Cheers! And May the Force be with You!!!

0.75oz Fresh Lime Juice

1.0oz Cointreau

1.0oz Limon Rum Chata

2.0oz Gin (Old Tom Gin works well)

8-10 fresh blueberries (will be muddled)

Add blueberries to a shaker tin and muddle into a nice paste

Add all the liquids to the shaker tin

Add 0.5 cup of ice cubes

Shake for 20-30 seconds (the longer the better)

Strain into a prepared rocks glass with ice cubes

Option for cocktails served “up””Double strain into a chilled coupe glass
