Spiced Cranberry Margarita

Most cocktail drinkers enjoy a Margarita from time to time. This classic cocktail is a mixture of tequila, triple sec, and lime. One of the great “three ingredient cocktails” out there. We recommend Reposado Tequila versus Blanco in the majority of use cases. Also, you can ramp up your triple sec game with Cointreau (and branded triple sec). This recipe swaps out triple sec for Grand Marnier. If you take the plunge on the bottle, don’t worry, there are many ways to enjoy Grand Marnier, including drinking it on the rocks or even straight up in a chilled glass!

We hope you enjoy this Margarita riff that adds Cranberry Juice (unsweetened, as we add the sugar in the recipe), and a fun optional garnish that is well worth the effort!

Cheers!!

2 oz Reposado Tequila

½ oz Grand Marnier

1 oz Unsweetened Cranberry Juice

½ oz Lime Juice

½ oz Cinnamon Syrup

Add all ingredients to a Cocktail Shaker

Add ice and shake 10-15 seconds until chilled

Pour cocktail over ice into a lowball glass

Garnish: Cinnamon Stick/Orange slice

Alternate Garnish: BOOZY CRANBERRIES!!

Heat ½ cup water, ½ cup sugar and 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks in a saucepan. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Add fresh cranberries to cover the water in one layer. Heat until most of the cranberries have popped to pop. Let cool. Strain the syrup into a container and use in building the cocktail. Transfer cranberries to a container and add 2 oz Tequila and let sit overnight in the refrigerator. Top your margarita with a spoonful of cranberries.

The Runaway Margarita

Every bar worth it’s salt offers a Margarita (pun intended). The Runaway Anchor has a specific recipe that is sure to delight the crowd. Stick with Reposado Tequila for this one versus Blanco. And up your Triple Sec game with Grand Marnier or other Cognac based orange liqueur. The real treat comes with the Agave Syrup. It’s crucial to be comfortable making your own syrups, and this one is no more challenge than a Simple Syrup (1:1 sugar and water). Our agave syrup is just 1 part agave and 1 part water. Heat it, dissolve it, and cool it, and you’re good to go! If you’re mixing for many, ramp up the ratios! The power of our amazing House Margarita is now in your hands!

Cheers!

2 oz Reposado Tequila (Espilon or 1800)

1 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1 oz Grand Marnier

1 oz Agave Syrup

Agave Syrup Recipe:

You may find varying consistencies of agave in your store. You want one that has the consistency of honey. Some agave nectars are already a little watered down. If you end up with that, just use it as is.

  • Heat a sauce pan
  • Add equal parts Agave and Water
  • Stir until dissolved and allow to cool

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker

Add ice and shake for 15 seconds

Strain over ice cubes in a lowball

Optional Garnish: Salted Rim

When you manage a concept cocktail bar, you end up following lots of cocktail makers on social media. The Runaway Anchor Instagram is full of our chosen recipes, alongside the Virtual Reality stuff that is closely associated with our brand.

The cocktail showed up in the past week, and the combo of tropical flavors and bright blue was too tempting to resist. Our recipe didn’t have the original call for homemade curacao and we used Reposado Tequila versus Blanco, which was called for originally. So the color shifted, but the flavor was still great. And our aqua marine end result is still pretty sweet.

If you like a fruity twist on a margarita, this one is worth a try! Cheers!

1½ oz Tequila

¾ oz Blue Curacao

¾ oz Coconut Syrup

¾ oz Fresh Lime Juice

Add everything to a cocktail shaker

Add ice and shake for 20 seconds

Use a mallet and lewis bag to make crushed ice

Add crushed ice to a Rocks Glass

Double strain the cocktail into a rocks glass

Add additional crushed ice on top
