Gin Old Fashioned

Gin, Demerara Syrup, Bitters
The Story

Any base spirit can be made into an Old Fashioned. The formula is simple: spirit, sugar, and bitters. Here we swap out the traditional Bourbon for an Old Tom Gin. My choice is Ransom, a barrel aged Old Tom, hence the darker color of the cocktail pictured. If you want to go for a different look, try Hayman's Old Tom, which is perfectly clear.

Ingredients
  • 2 oz Old Tom Gin

  • ¼ oz Rich Demerara Syrup (2:1)

  • 3 dashes Orange Bitters

  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Preparation
  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass

  2. Stir with ice for 30 seconds

  3. Strain into a lowball with a large ice cube

  4. Optionally garnish with a twist of lemon
